There’s a misconception that spider veins and varicose veins are merely an annoying cosmetic issue patients just have to live with. They’re not. Varicose veins, in particular, are a circulatory problem that, left unchecked, could lead to more serious outcomes.
The professionals at Cleanz ensure patients will receive the best care possible for a condition long overlooked by many. Venous disease (most commonly referred to as varicose veins) affects 20% of all adults. Most of the afflicted are women who work “standing jobs” (think hairdressers, servers, nurses, and teachers) or who have carried multiple pregnancies. Pain and swelling are the main complaints of sufferers. But in addition to negatively impacting movement and lifestyle and being generally unpleasant, venous disease can result in serious health concerns—including venous ulcers, deep vein thrombosis, and edema.
“Leaky” valves are often to blame. Over time, valves in the leg veins can weaken, failing to prevent blood from flowing back through those same valves. Veins may become enlarged and disfigured, and blood may pool rather circulate.
In the past, patients were often told there was little recourse or that their venous disease was nothing more than annoying. Particularly bad cases might be subject to “venous stripping,” an invasive surgical procedure requiring general anesthesia and several weeks of recovery time.
But today, several minimally invasive, medically proven outpatient treatments are available, procedures that are painless and that require no downtime.
Sclerotherapy is one such treatment. It involves the use of injection catheters to deliver a medical solution into the veins, which seals leaky valves. In essence, what sclerotherapy does is reroute blood through healthier veins. It involves no surgery, cutting, incisions, or sutures.
Spider veins, which are considered to be a strictly cosmetic issue, may also be successfully treated with sclerotherapy.
“No one needs to live with the pain or discomfort of varicose veins or the unattractive appearance of spider veins,” says Cleanz Spa owner Sherry Boyce. “We’ll have you back on your feet quickly.”
